Server down

My backup DNS server has gone down, permanently. The PSU works and yet it won’t switch on.

It’s not a power house, being a 533Mhz EPIA, but it was enough for the task. I’ll take this opportunity to upgrade, using a motherboard and CPU I had lying around, with hard disk and memory from another computer. The only thing I lack is a case, but I’ve ordered one for £23 that’ll do for the short term, and I’ll replace the PSU with an 80plus efficient one later.

Hans Reiser article

Here is an interesting article about Hans Reiser. Freaky.

It is my opinion that the decline of ReiserFS is primarily to do with the problems surrounding Hans Reiser, and a desire not to have that name repeated any more. Which is a crying shame, since it held so much promise.

Ubuntu on 4GiB

This is about Ununtu, but first an admission. I run Vista, ok I admit it. It’s slick and smooth, but it doesn’t tolerate badly written software and/or drivers. My install was stable for a while, but slowly went down hill..  After a fresh install all is ok and slick again :-).

Suicide

Suicide, why do people do it. I think that there must be a genetic bias, a basic dis-connection with our surroundings that allows some people to brush with the idea more than others.
