VPS down twice, ADSL wins
Since cancelling the co-location service, I have tried two VPS providers, and in each case within a month they suffered hardware failures.
The first one still haven’t got their act together. The second are trying very hard, and are approachable, but have two points against them. No RAID, and my service with them has been unavailable for almost a week. I might go back to them, simple because they try hard, and do answer emails…. Seriously, my first VPS provider didn’t even do me that courtesy.
Now, you may be wondering who these two miscreants are. Well, I’m not going to say. But if you comment on this thread, I may be willing to fess up.
Finally, the title says it, ADSL wins. I have moved all my hosting to a box on the end of my ADSL line, and have found that my constraint up-link speed is in-fact not a problem for the kinds of services I run.
So the moral of the story is do things yourself.
Oh, and write scripts to setup servers. Thankfully that’s what I did, instead of taking notes, and it has saved my bacon many times.
