Windows 7 repartition

An update to my Windows 7 adventure. It’s great!!!..  A vast improvement over the blue screen haze that is Vista. But if you go the route of repartition and installing as a second OS, be aware, there are pitfalls.

The main problem is that when I installed Windows 7, it placed itself in the boot menu of the Vista partition, unknown to me. Later, when I finally went to delete the Vista partition, Windows wouldn’t let me!.

Number one advice! Keep your Windows 7 install disk at hand. Repeat, do not trash it after install.

You see, the install disk has some really nice recovery tools. If you happen, like I did for example, to delete the Vista partition by other means (Linux boot CD), then your system will become unbootable. Insert your original Windows 7 install CD, boot off of it, and select recovery.

Magic, it rebuilds the boot menu, and your system is fine again :-).
