Here is an interesting article about Hans Reiser. Freaky.
It is my opinion that the decline of ReiserFS is primarily to do with the problems surrounding Hans Reiser, and a desire not to have that name repeated any more. Which is a crying shame, since it held so much promise.
Perhaps somebody could host it as an open source project, and rename it to avoid the political problems. This was the shining hope for storage in Linux.
